MEDIATION & YOUTH: A One-Day “How To” Introduction
This “how to” workshop is designed for participants with or without mediation experience. Beginning with a focused introduction/review of the foundations of mediation, the morning will explore strategies and techniques suited to mediation with, or between, youth. Combining ‘lecturettes’, case example exploration, discussion and practice, participants will gain knowledge to increase their ability and confidence in using the mediation process with teens. (Emphasis will be on the mediation model and tools and techniques, not on the steps in creating a mediation program).
TOPICS TO BE EXPLORED INCLUDE:
- Conflict resolution, Self-Discipline and Self-Esteem
- Principles of effective Conflict Resolution
- The Mediation Model
- Preparing the Parties – Pre-Mediation Meetings
- The Steps of a Mediation Meeting
- The Conflict Resolution “Waltz”:
- reveal and explore the needs/goals underlying the parties’ positions
- win-win problem-solving and consensus-building
- creating S.M.A.R.T. family agreements
Very important information. I appreciate Keiron’s ability to have the participants feel heard — he’s a very compassionate speaker and very inspiring of the same qualities.
